Paper vs. Printed Explorer Pages
Printed block explorer screenshots are a valid record — if you capture the right fields. A checklist for what to include on each printout.
Some holders print block explorer pages after each transaction and file them in binders. This works — but incomplete printouts create reconciliation headaches later.
Minimum Fields Per Printout
- Transaction ID (full, not truncated)
- Block height and confirmation date
- All input addresses and amounts
- All output addresses and amounts
- Fee paid
Label the Printout Immediately
Write on the margin:
- Your own reference number (e.g., “2025-07-08-03”)
- Which wallet software or hardware device initiated the transaction
- Purpose in one phrase (“monthly DCA”, “gift to daughter”, “consolidation”)
Storage
Store printouts chronologically, not by address. Address-sorted folders duplicate transactions that touch multiple addresses and make gap detection harder.
When Printouts Are Not Enough
Explorer pages show what happened on chain. They do not show why you made the transaction or which notebook entry corresponds. Cross-reference your printout reference number in your handwritten ledger on the same day.
For holders who want a unified format, our UTXO Ledger Setup session designs templates that complement explorer printouts.
